Cross-government health creation

Health is shaped far more by decisions made outside the Department of Health and Social Care (DHSC) than within it. To build a healthier UK, national Arms length bodies (ALBs) must embed health creation criteria into their master developments, funding distributions, and regulatory standards.

  • Homes England: Integrating active design, walkable neighbourhoods, community hubs, and green corridors into master planning and housing delivery.
  • Active Travel England & Living Streets: Designing streets and urban infrastructure that encourage walking, cycling, and natural daily movement.
  • The Wildlife Trusts & Natural England: Expanding green infrastructure and accessible nature within 15 minutes of every home.
  • National Academy for Social prescribing (NASP): Connecting clinical care with non-clinical community assets, creative arts, and nature programmes.
